The Origins of Seiki
Akinobu Kishi, the founder
of Seiki, was born in 1949. Through observing his father's expertise in Judo,
he discovered the significance of the hara and movement. In keeping with Japanese
tradition, he trained in Shiatsu, completing his studies with the likes of Namikoshi,
the originator of Shiatsu Therapy, and Masunaga, the founder of Zen Shiatsu.
Aged 29, Kishi became ill, so he developed his own method of healing called Seiki - big changes occurred. Its spirit is universal, touching all communities and cultures with equal respect and understanding. Originating in Shinto, inspired at times by Daoist, Zen and other great teaching traditions, Kishi's method encompasses all of this and more, looking always beyond to the very roots of our own condition.
Understanding Seiki
The literal translation of
Seiki is 'treatment of life energy' (breath). The body always expresses what
it needs, but we do not always detect the signals. Everyday pressures manifest
themselves into physical and emotional problems, distorting our life energy.
Seiki unravels this trend. The
focus is on the here and now, which eliminates confusion and aids healing. Having
a basic trust in whatever occurs at a given moment allows us to simply let go
of our physical and emotional problems.
Energetically, Seiki can be difficult to grasp. Physiologically, it becomes easier. In its most accessible form, life energy is breath. The whole body breathes, not only in the respiratory tract, but also throughout all the cells and tissues of the body.
Seiki Soho - Treatment
Seiki follows the movement
of the breath, encouraging inner awareness and sensitivity, essential for clearing
stagnant energy and releasing habitual patterns.
The practitioner acts as a mirror. As the client feels the reflection of their breath, internal connections are made; stagnant energy is released and distortions are cleared, the body recognizing its innate willingness to heal itself. The practitioner helps the client to find their own way, making space to regain balance and harmony
Katsugen (Body
Intelligence)
Katsugen is the name given
to spontaneous movement, natural movements of the body that can occur during
treatments - adjustments within the body. Eliminating and cleaning, whether
it's emotional or physical, internal or visible, Katsugen is purification. The
movement we feel is the healing that we need. Seiki develops the awareness and
sensitivity necessary to feel the movement behind a physical discomfort, behind
a pain or emotion, in order to release the full creative and joyful potential
of our original personality and power.
What Conditions Can Seiki Help?
Seiki works from the inside
out so, to a certain extent, it can help all types of ailments. At times, the
level of an ailment will reflect what is experienced, during and/or after a
treatment. But if 'basic trust' is applied, the body can take care of itself.
It has all the answers. After all, it is self-healing, self-regulating, and
self-integrating.
The main cause of illness is the accumulation of tiredness. For example, through tiredness of the brain, it takes longer for blood to reach the stomach, resulting in poor nourishment. We need to push out the tiredness and replace it with new energy.
